2014 Consilience Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County

Last month, I introduced a new family winery from Santa Barbara to my ongoing series of discovery of some of the great wines of California - Sanger Family of Wines. The first wine from Sanger Family of Wines that I shared was a chardonnay with good acidity - the 2014 Consilience Chardonnay Santa Barbara County produced & bottled by Sanger Family of Wines. Today, we're headed back to Santa Barbara for another wine from the Sanger Family's Consilience label:
2014 Consilience Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County produced & bottled by Sanger Family of Wines (Buellton, California).

This wine is 100% pinot noir from Santa Barbara County. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for 10 months in 35% new French oak barrels. It comes in at 13.5% ABV.

Here it is in the glass:
Another look:
One more:
The wine showed a light ruby color. Cherry, raspberry, dusty leather, mossy earth, vanilla and oak were each discernible on the nose. Cherry, raspberry, dusty leather, mossy earth, vanilla, oak and hints of spice could all be found on the palate. However, given the retraint of the fruit notes, the wine was tight and rather austere. It exhibited average structure and length, along with moderate tannins.

This wine can be purchased for $30* directly from the winery's website.

More to come from the Sanger Family of Wines!
